1. Traditional Arts and Folklife Listing Updated
The State Arts Council has updated its Traditional Arts and Folklife Listing, just in time for spring. Staff at organizations planning warm-weather events are encouraged to look through the directory – which is searchable by name, category, and tradition -- to find traditional arts performers, demonstrators, scholars, and exhibitors. Others may just want to browse through the listings to see the breadth of traditional arts practitioners in New Hampshire. The listings include photos, background, description of offerings, fees, contact info and more.
Traditional arts and folklife are the crafts, music, stories, and ways of doing things that are passed on from one generation to the next within families, communities, and cultural groups of all types. 
Note: Traditional artists who would like to be included in the listing should apply to the Arts Council by Monday, April 20.  Visit http://www.nh.gov/nharts/grants/artists/tradlistingapp.htm for information.

2. Grantee Earns Emmy Nomination
Andrea Melville, a filmmaker who received a State Arts Council American Masterpieces Grant to create An Island Kingdom, a documentary about the Isles of Shoals, has been nominated for an Emmy for that film. The nomination, in the Historical/Cultural Program category, came from the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science. The awards will be presented May 30 in Boston.

3. Monday’s the Deadline for Traditional Arts Apprenticeships
Traditional Arts are passed on from one generation to the next. The NH State Council on the Arts supports the perpetuation of traditional arts by funding Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grants, which support master traditional artists working with experienced apprentices in one-on-one sessions. Apprenticeship grants recognize master traditional artists for their artistic excellence and commitment to preserving their heritage and support the efforts of promising apprentices who want to learn a tradition and share it with others.
